Netspend DDA, prepaid card and ACH data

Netspend Corporation · Banking 4.6 ★

Netspend is Netspend Corporation's Android app for U.S. prepaid debit cards and Pathward-issued Netspend Debit Accounts. Cardholders can check spendable balances and recent transactions, view statements, copy Direct Deposit details, manage physical and virtual cards, change a PIN, lock a card or report it lost, and add a card to Google Wallet. Move Money includes Plaid-linked ACH funding, debit-card transfers, person-to-person payments and mobile check loads, with Western Union and MoneyGram options also available. Savings, Cash Back / Payback Rewards, loyalty points and the Credit Builder / Better Credit secured card extend the account beyond everyday spending. Sign-in supports username and password, one-time verification codes and later biometric access; identity-document submission, overdraft enrollment, E-SIGN consent and in-store cash-load barcodes support account setup and use. Netspend is not a bank: Pathward, National Association, member FDIC, provides the deposit account. The service targets U.S. prepaid-debit and everyday-money users, including people seeking alternatives alongside Green Dot, ACE Elite, Chime and Walmart MoneyCard; Vermont residents cannot open a Card Account. The Play listing has a 4.6-star rating from 140,174 ratings.

Netspend deposit-ledger records connect availableBalance and postedBalance with payroll identifiers accountNumber and routingNumber. Transaction entries add transactionAmount, transactionType, merchantName and pending, giving payroll and benefits tools the fields needed to distinguish posted deposits from pending card purchases. Card-owner identity records include CipStatusType, dateOfBirth and postalCode, while virtual-card records pair card_id with lastFour, nickname, locked and cardStatus. Full card details remain a separately verified part of the card-management flow.

ACH reconciliation can join linked-bank institution_id, mask, subtype and bank_link_id with debit-ledger entries. Cash-load records carry barcode_transaction_mapping_id and expiresAt; person-to-person transfer availability is represented by eligibility and status. Rewards ledgers combine availablePoints, pointsAmount and redemptionOptions with merchant offerId and activated states. Savings adds apy and enrollment, and secured-credit records provide available_credit_limit and enrollment. These field relationships support payroll reconciliation, card-lifecycle tools, ACH funding checks and rewards operations. openData Studio turns the account records into callable open data for those integrations.

API surface

The endpoints and request/response examples below are reconstructed from the app's interface — illustrative, not a live capture.

  • Sign in with username and password

    POST /v1/prepaid-access/sessions osint

Creates a mobile session after username/password sign-in and any required one-time-code challenge so subsequent calls can send the session token header.

Auth: No prior session. Username and password in the JSON body; an out-of-band challenge uses oobaCode. The returned token is sent in the X-Ns-Access_token header.

Where teams use this data

  • Payroll and benefits Direct Deposit

Payroll and SSA/VA benefit files can bind the Pathward routingNumber and accountNumber from the debit account, then watch availableBalance and postedBalance after an early deposit posts.

  • Card-lifecycle operations

Issuing desks track virtual-card lastFour, nickname, locked and cardStatus, and only reveal pan/cvc after a CVC step, so replacements and Google Wallet tokens stay in sync with the live card list.

  • ACH funding reconciliation

Treasury bots list Plaid-linked banks by institution_id, mask, subtype and bank_link_id, then match inbound ACH against the debit ledger's transactionAmount and merchantName.

  • Loyalty and Payback ledgers

Rewards ops read availablePoints and pointsAmount beside Payback offerId rows so cash-back activations and point redemptions can be posted without scraping the Rewards tab.

Frequently asked questions

What identifiers support Direct Deposit reconciliation?

The deposit details include accountNumber, routingNumber, accountType and bankName for the Pathward account. Dashboard availableBalance and ledger postedBalance can be compared with transactionAmount and pending to check whether a payroll or federal-benefit deposit has posted. Account and routing identifiers require authorized handling.

Can the data distinguish virtual-card lock state from the spendable balance?

Yes. Virtual-card records include card_id, lastFour, nickname, locked, cardStatus and virtualCard, while the dashboard carries availableBalance. These fields support card-lifecycle tools without treating a balance change as a card-status change; annual and active-card limits apply in the app.

What fields describe external banks linked for ACH funding?

Linked-account records include bank_link_id, institution_id, bankName, accountName, accountType, mask and subtype. These fields identify the external checking or savings account for funding reconciliation. Person-to-person sending uses a separate eligibility and status record.

Are these examples a public Netspend API, and how is account access protected?

No. The paths and request/response examples on this page are synthetic illustrations of account-data relationships, not production Netspend interfaces or a public Netspend API. They do not grant access to any account. An integration must have appropriate account-holder authorization and protect identity, bank and card information. Username/password sign-in may require an out-of-band oobaCode; the session token is carried in a token header, and mutating requests also use an anti-forgery token. Full pan and cvc disclosure has a further CVC verification step, and those values are not part of the ordinary virtual-card listing. The examples use placeholders rather than usable credentials or card numbers.
